What To Look For In Persian Rugs

There are several things to look for in selecting a persian rug. Probably the most well known and widely used is Knots Per Square Inch, commonly abbreviated as KPSI. Generally, the more knots per square inch, the more valuable the rug.

Another factor to look for in persian rugs is where the rug is made. Real "persian rugs" are made in Iran. The rugs made in such places as India an Pakistan are not the same. Several differences include the type of wool used, the type of dye used and the types of knots.

How old a persian rug is impotant as well. An older carpet is generally more expensive. Be careful of dealers who chemically wash the persian rug to give it that aged look.

The last factor is who are you buying the rug from. What is their reputation. Do you know of other satisfied clients who have purchased persian rugs from them in the past? Are they able to provide you with a certificate of authenticity for the rug? Take your time and do your research before making a large investment.
